What is a PTSA?

The “PTSA” stands for Parent Teacher Student Association. The Washington State PTA is the oldest and largest volunteer association dedicated to the education, health, welfare, and safety of all children in Washington state. When you join the PSTA, you support local, state, and national efforts to improve the lives of children and their families.  Recently PSTAs have advocated to better fund basic instruction, including teacher salaries, curriculum expenses, transportation, and Special Education. Statewide, our membership of over 100,000 people has been a powerful voice for important advancements such as smaller class sizes, more stable annual funding and full-day Kindergarten options. Each Fall, members can participate in setting the agenda for improvement priorities for the upcoming legislative session.

Having a membership is valuable! Benefits include advocacy, student scholarships, programs, volunteer support, services to local PSTAs and councils, and many training classes for PSTA leaders.

What does the PTSA at Mt Si High School do?

This PTSA provides a link between the parents and Principal for communication and works closely with the school’s administration to offer its assistance and support for staff and students. The PTSA establishes a volunteer base to help run school events like picture day and vision & hearing screenings, it sponsors parent education programs, facilitates offering ACT/SAT Prep classes, and organizes the Seniors’ Grad Night celebration. The PTSA raises funds for its Student Welfare Program and maintains the C.A.R.E. Closet at the high school which has a pantry stocked with healthy snacks and take-home food, shelves with school supplies, toiletries, clothing, jackets and shoes for any student in need. The PTSA is grateful for the school’s hard-working staff and hosts staff appreciation events and assists the principal with Teacher and Student Recognition awards.

Joining the PTSA for as little as $10 for your annual membership is the quickest and easiest way to help us make a difference for every student. This is one simple way to show your children that you value their high school experience and are working to make these years the best and most productive they can be.
